Every morning at 10am, I make myself a bowl of gluten-free oatmeal dusted with brown sugar and topped with blueberries. I sit down at my dining room table with two drinks: espresso with a little oat milk creamer and water with a lemon wedge. I set the table with big intentions: Put down my phone. Be in the moment.
There I am. I’m doing it. Breakfast. At my table. Without my phone. I invite Wessie cat to sit next to me and purr. He’s not a fan of oatmeal, but he loves the dining room table chairs. This is great. My oatmeal. Spoon. Bowl. The espresso is cold. I should heat it up. What was I saying? Where’d Wes go? This espresso is cold. I could warm it up. Should I take my bowl too? It could use a 30 second blast. Nah, it’s not as cold as the espresso. Should I have more espresso? How many have I had? Oh God, am I late for something? What’s today? Where’d I leave my phone?
Almost without fail, within about 5 -30 minutes later, I wake up from my scrolling to find that I’ve somehow procured my phone from the other room and now I’m six IG reels deep into the same Abbott Elementary clip I’ve seen at least 10 times. After the 4th day of this exact cycle, I knew I needed a change. Some variable to disrupt the Matrix.
So, I decided that I would grab one of those books on my “to read” pile by my chair. I dusted it off - save your judgement - and left it on the dining room table. I knew if I left it there, tomorrow morning, around 10:04am, I would find myself eating breakfast and my ADHD would kick in. Instead of reaching for my phone, this book would be waiting.
Rules for the Dance by Mary Oliver joined me for breakfast. It was the best decision I’ve made in a long time. See, I’m a poet at heart. It speaks to me in a way few other mediums do. I’m a Pisces moon - which means that while my Sun in Scorpio makes me appear mysterious and withdrawn, in my heart of hearts (your moon), I’m a romantic. My romantic sweetness is complimented by my Taurus rising - a very romantic sign, so more than likely it’s no surprise to anyone that I like poetry. That I write poetry. That I majored in poetry in college, but was forced to pivot and found film. Film is poetry in motion. Pisces people are the poet souls of the zodiac.
But back to the breakfast table. Mary and I talked about a subject only someone with key Pisces placements would love: Poetry. Actually, anyone who also had a stellium in Virgo in the 5th house could truly appreciate. We spoke about the proper rules for writing poetry. The exquisite tango between structure and play. Meter/Rhythm and Feet/Lines.
Have you heard of Iambic Pentameter? Maybe in high school? It’s the most common type of poem around. Shakespeare was a fan. So was Robert Frost. Metrical poems are into different patterns. Pentameter means there’s 5 different syllables of a pattern in a single line. That style of the pattern determines the meter. The patterns means the order of syllables that are stressed or not stressed. Iambic is soft, hard, soft hard. The number of stresses in a meter determine the line.
So, to put that all together, Iambic Pentameter is a poem with the rhythmic pattern of unstressed, then stressed syllables in words five times within each line. Here’s a very popular question and example of Iambic Pentameter, written out for clarity.
to BE or NOT to BE ?
It’s a perfect question for this Pisces moon, because March gives us the most chaotic month of 2025 - if you can believe it. And Astrologically speaking, the end of Pisces season closes out the Lunar New Year. This is the last gasping breath of 2024, a year that showed us just how deep the fight for the soul of America (and each American) has become.
New Moons are about setting intentions by planting seeds. The astrological sign the moon is in is what determines the soil, and the house that is ruled by that sign (and any planets in that house) are the seeds you’re planting. These seeds grow for 6 months and reach their full potential when the moon is Full in that sign again on September 7th. The Corn Blood Moon will be a Total Lunar Eclipse. You can imagine that any seeds planted will be supercharged.
So let’s get to the cards.
For this new moon in Pisces, what do I need to remember as I plant my intentions for the next big harvest?
I asked the Murder of Crows deck the above question for you, and this was her response.
