I love music.
It’s the driving force behind most of my day. I wake up to music. Currently, Formation by Beyoncé gets me out of bed. Why? Because I can’t just lay around, expecting my dreams to make themselves. I need to get in formation.

I also have a playlist for writing—several, actually. I make them for each piece I’m working on. It’s not really on my to-do list if I haven’t made a playlist for it.

Music is my litmus test for how I feel about something. It can dictate or change my mood. It can help me explore my feelings. Trying on a sad song to see if I need a good cry. Not feeling it? Then I pop on some Lizzo and shake it out instead. Lizzo was right—I didn’t need him. I did, in fact, just need a drink. Lizzo is always so right.

After my mom died in 2014, I couldn’t listen to music for a full year. Anytime I’d hear it, I’d burst into tears. My heart was too broken and shocked to feel, so I numbed it with silence. In my opinion, music is the single greatest form of communication.

Of all the zodiac signs, Geminis seem to be some of the best musicians in the world—because Gemini is ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication. It’s like Geminis were born to speak, sing, rap, or play.

Here’s just a sample of Gemini singers you know:

Prince, Stevie Wonder, Tupac Shakur, Stevie Nicks, Biggie Smalls, Kendrick Lamar, Paul McCartney, Patti LaBelle, Lenny Kravitz, Bob Dylan, Alanis Morissette, Morrissey, Mel B, Lana Del Rey.
